Preguntas Frecuentes

WHY ARE BAREFOOT SHOES A BETTER OPTION?

+ -

We have been adapting our feet to shoes; shoes should adapt or mimic our natural foot shape. That is what a barefoot shoe or minimal shoe is all about.

Barefoot shoes give your feet the right amount of space and flexibility to move, stay strong and develop properly. They are flat and help you keep your natural body alignment. Their design respects your feet ' shape, following their natural form to prevent toe deformities while also providing a closer connection with the ground allowing your foot nerves to sense where you are in space.

IS YOUR DESIGN TRULY BAREFOOT?

+ -

All of the Origo models are designed using barefoot principles such as a wide toe cage, a flat, no heel drop, and a thin and flexible sole. These characteristics promote better balance and flexibility to move and help your feet develop naturally. We could be called a minimal shoe, as we know there are wider and thinner shoes in the market. Learn more about the Origo barefoot story here.

HOW IS BAREFOOT GOOD FOR KIDS?

+ -

When children are learning to walk, they always feel safer on their bare feet. That is what a barefoot shoe does for kids.

Barefoot shoes help kids’ feet grow and develop naturally and awaken their sensory skills in a more natural, organic way. These shoes give feet more space, allowing kids to walk more freely, similar to being barefoot.

I’VE NEVER USED BAREFOOT SHOES BEFORE. WHY SHOULD I TRY THEM?

+ -

Imagine when you get home from a long day and just need to get your shoes off.  Wearing barefoot or minimal shoes is like being barefoot. You would not be rushing to take them off, as your feet are in their natural position. Trying barefoot shoes is giving freedom to your feet.

At first, you might find the look of the shoes a bit weird as they are wider, or feel “unprotected” since they are flat and thin. But by using them progressively, your feet will feel the difference. You will start to feel better body balance, a sense of freedom and a connection to the ground.

DO YOU HAVE VEGAN SHOES AVAILABLE?

+ -

Yes! Origo Shoes are available in cactus leather and cotton canvas, both 100% vegan shoes.

WHY ARE YOUR SHOES VEGAN?

+ -

Origo shoes are available in three materials, two of which are vegan.

Cotton Canvas:

Our cotton canvas shoes are made from 100% cotton upper and accented with synthetic materials or cactus leather. Cotton waxed laces come with The Everyday Shoe. This combination makes this shoe 100% vegan.

Cactus Leather:

Shoes made with cactus leather are made from 100% vegan cactus leather produced in Mexico. This material is sustainable, biodegradable, organic, breathable, water-resistant, and long-lasting. Our cactus leather shoes have some accents in synthetic materials, and The Everyday Shoe comes with waxed cotton laces. These features make the cactus leather Origos completely vegan.

Origo Sole:

Our signature speckled sole is made with 20% oats and corn starch to reduce the use of polymers and carbon emissions both during production and use. The other 80% of the sole is made from TPR (thermoplastic rubber), a great insulator of cold and heat. The Origo sole is vegan and biodegrades faster than regular soles.

HOW CAN ORIGO SHOES BE CLEANED?

+ -

Cactus Leather:

You may clean the cactus leather shoes with a damp cloth and soap. A bit of polishing cream can be rubbed on the shoe for a final finish.

Natural Leather:

Leather Origo shoes can be cleaned with a specific leather care product such as a cream or spray following the cleaning product instructions.

Origo Sole:

Clean the Origo sole with a very gentle brush, soap, and water. For the cotton canvas model, you can put the entire shoe into the washing machine.

Cotton Laces:

The cotton laces can be soaked in water and soap or put in your washing machine with the laundry.

WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR MATERIALS?

+ -

In an effort to reduce carbon emissions in our manufacturing process and produce small batches to reduce waste, we source our materials in North American countries. Some raw materials come from the United States (such as cotton and cow hides), and then are processed in Mexico to convert them to final shoe parts (leathers and fabrics, for example); others are sourced directly in Mexico.

WHERE DO YOU PRODUCE YOUR SHOES?

+ -

Origo shoes are manufactured in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. We choose our manufacturing partners carefully, making sure they offer fair labor conditions. We produce in Mexico to avoid extra-long shipping distances to reach our customers and to be able to produce in small batches.

WHAT SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES DO YOU APPLY?

+ -

Origo shoes are made in Mexico with locally sourced, natural materials. Our production sites are in Leon, Guanajuato, keeping the most significant part of our production in one place, avoiding long shipping distances to reach our customers, and producing small batches.

Materials: Our criteria for choosing materials are environmental impact, performance, and durability. We choose our materials wisely and look for sourcing vendors that use eco-friendly processes and respect labor conditions. Each of our materials offers sustainability advantages. Learn more about our materials here.

Donations: We also manifest our commitment to the environment by donating one tree planted per pair of shoes you purchase.

Packaging: We ship our shoes in their shoe box to limit excessive waste. Instead of using plastic, we use a backyard compostable bag to protect your shoes. Our shipping and returns process is as paperless as possible.

IS IT NORMAL FOR NATURAL LEATHER SHOES TO CREASE?

+ -

Our leathers are all-natural, thin, and soft, without coatings that make them look artificial. Therefore, it is normal to have some minor creases right where the feet bends. When used, the shoe will crease but once the leather naturally adapts to your feet, the creasing stabilizes.

IS IT NORMAL FOR COTTON CANVAS SHOES TO CREASE?

+ -

Our cotton canvas shoes will crease just a bit where the feet bend. This is normal on most materials due to the use pressure the material withstands during use.

IS IT NORMAL FOR CACTUS LEATHER SHOES TO CREASE?

+ -

Our cactus leather shoes will either not crease at all or will show some minor creasing. This is caused by the outer polyurethane protective layer that cactus leather has, so if you want a shoe that shows very little creasing, cactus leather might be your best option within the materials we offer.

CAN I RESOLE MY ORIGO SHOES?

+ -

Unfortunately, your Origo Shoes cannot be re-soled as they were not designed with that purpose in mind. The sole can be torn apart but it will leave some pieces of it glued to the upper, which would then be unable to stick a new sole to it.

WHAT IS CACTUS LEATHER?

+ -

Cactus leather is a great alternative to other faux vegan leathers as it is made out of cacti protein topped with a polyurethane resin to protect the material from water. Cactus leather gives a great look to the shoes, with little creasing, though it does not adapt to your feet as well as natural leather does.

WHAT ARE THE SHOE WIDTHS?

+ -

Our shoe widths are published in our size guide here.

WHY ARE MY SHOELACES SLIPPERY?

+ -

Origo Shoelaces are made out of natural cotton and are protected with a wax outer layer for a refined look and cotton protection. Initially, the laces could be a bit slippery but after the first few uses, the wax wears off a bit, and the laces will have an improved grip, still conserving the great look.

ARE ORIGO SHOE SOLES SLIPPERY?

+ -

In general, our soles are not slippery. However, it will vary greatly on the surfaces and weather you would normally walk. If you normally walk on wet or ice-covered surfaces, our soles might not be the best choice as they don´t have a thread designed for this. But for everyday use, on surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, wood, or turf, and not under extreme weather conditions, our soles should perform well.

ARE ORIGO SHOES MATERIALS BREATHABLE?

+ -

Every material has some sort of breathability, some more so than others. Our most breathable material is cotton canvas, followed by natural leather and then our cactus leather.

DO YOU HAVE DISCOUNTED PRICES FOR MILITARY/VETERANS?

+ -

We do not have a specific discount for the military but all veterans are welcome to purchase through one of our affiliates to get 10% off their purchases.

CAN I EXCHANGE FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL?

+ -

As long as the pair of shoes you want to return comply with our Returns guidelines, yes you can. Please send us an email at hello@origoshoes.com and we will help you with this.

ARE THE SHOES AVAILABLE IN STORES?

+ -

We are a small family business since 2020. We handle all orders and shipping on our own at the moment, but we are working on implementing other distribution channels in the future.

SOLE THICKNESS

+ -

Our Sole is 4mm thick, slightly more than other brands to ensure the durability of our eco-friendly, corn-based sole. Additionally, our shoes have approximately another 4mm of insole + winning materials. So our stack should be around 8 mm.

IS CACTUS LEATHER WARMER THAN OTHER MATERIALS?

+ -

Cactus leather is made out of a combination of several materials; a lining made out of cotton holds together a thin layer of cacti protein and then all is topped with a polyurethane coating to make the mix water resistant. So while close to half of al materials in cactus leather are organic, the breathability of the material is still limited. This makes cactus leather a warmer material as it is less breathable than our other materials (cotton canvas and natural leather).
